Terms of service

Last updated: 22 April 2026

These terms govern your use of Folio (the "Service"), a private writing and editorial platform operated by cauri jaye ("we", "us", "our") for work on the book Futureproofing Society. By signing in you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not sign in.

1. Eligibility and access

Folio is invitation-only. You may only sign in with a Google account whose email appears on our allowlist. We may add, remove, or change the admin status of any entry on the allowlist at any time, with or without notice. Removal ends your right to access the Service, though existing contributions remain as described below.

2. Your account

You are responsible for activity performed under your Google account when signed in to Folio. Keep your Google account secure; do not share sign-in access with anyone else. Tell us at caurijaye@gmail.com if you suspect your account has been compromised.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for anything unlawful, harmful, defamatory, harassing, or infringing;
  • attempt to bypass the allowlist, the admin gate, or any other access control;
  • interfere with the Service's operation, including overloading the AI or research pipelines, scraping content, or running security tests without prior written permission;
  • upload content you do not have the right to share, or that contains malware;
  • use the Service to build a competing product without prior written permission.

4. Intellectual property

The book. All rights in Futureproofing Society — including its manuscript, chapters, structure, and associated notes — remain with cauri jaye. Nothing in these terms transfers any ownership of the book to you.

Your contributions. When you make edits, comments, marks, or other contributions through the Service ("Contributions"), you retain authorship of your original work. You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, distribute, and otherwise exploit those Contributions in connection with the book and the Service. This licence is what allows us to incorporate your edits into the manuscript and publish the result.

The platform. The Service's software, design, and agent personas (Sable, Meridian, Ona, Lode, Volta, Arcana, Forge, and others) are our property or that of our licensors. You are granted a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose while your access is active.

5. AI-assisted features

Folio uses large language models (Anthropic, OpenAI) and embedding models to generate suggestions, summaries, marks, and other editorial signals. AI output is probabilistic and may contain errors, outdated information, or fabricated citations. We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any AI-generated content. A human editor (you) must verify everything before relying on it or publishing it.

By using AI features you acknowledge that the text you submit is sent to the providers identified in our privacy policy for processing.

6. Third-party services

Folio relies on third-party services — Google (sign-in), Supabase (database and auth), Vercel (hosting), and AI and research providers. Your use of those services through Folio is also subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for their acts or omissions and disclaim any liability arising from them to the maximum extent permitted by law.

7. Service availability

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee any particular uptime, performance, or absence of errors. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service — in whole or in part — at any time, with or without notice. We will make a reasonable effort to give invited users advance notice of a permanent shutdown so that Contributions can be exported.

8. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Content displayed in the Service — including AI-generated content, research summaries, and the book's manuscript — is for editorial work and discussion only. It is not professional advice (legal, medical, financial, or otherwise) and must not be relied upon as such.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to the Service. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed £100.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your breach of these terms, your misuse of the Service, or Contributions you provide that infringe any third party's rights.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time; email us at caurijaye@gmail.com to request removal from the allowlist and deletion of your personal data. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law — will continue to apply.

12. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where reasonable, notify active users through the Service. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the revised terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the Service, except that either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.

14. Contact

Questions, notices, or requests under these terms: caurijaye@gmail.com.
